Vattenfall Heat UK is looking for an Engineering Manager to join our UK based Engineering and Technical team for the North Region.

Vattenfall UK business is rapidly growing and has been successful in securing large district heating and cooling network opportunities in London and Scotland, some serving more than 20,000 home equivalent from one network, with total installed capacity up to 90MW and opportunity to grow. This is an exciting opportunity to work on delivering new district heating and cooling systems that will play the key role of decarbonising heat in the UK.

Vattenfall’s long experience in operating heat networks across Europe, where we serve 2.2 million heat customers and this role will be working closely with our colleagues to bring best practice to the UK.

The Engineering Manager will be part of a team that that drives engineering excellence on sustainable large scale district heating and cooling developments. You will be responsible for the delivery of our technical solutions, managing design and build contractors, coordination with other works, client relationship and support to our Delivery team. You should have an exceptional understanding of good engineering design and construction principles, as well as awareness around commercial issues and very good stakeholder management skills.

This role will report to the Lead Engineering Manager and be part of the Engineering team. You’ll work closely with the Project Manager, Head of Delivery and Procurement.

What are the responsibilities of the Engineering Manager?

The Engineering Manager will be responsible for the delivery of the technical solution for large district heating networks (circa. 20-40 MWth). This includes the end to end systems – HIUs, secondary (in-building) network, heat sub-stations, primary (underground pipework system) and energy centers. The Engineering Manager will report to the Lead Engineering Manager and will be able to develop and deliver engineering solutions that follow good practice principles and deliver good performance, H&S and quality.

You will be setting technical standards, delivering design, installation inspection and design verification, commissioning method specification, technical review of the handover information and system performance review.

While elements of the design may be carried out by external suppliers, the Engineering Manager will perform design review as well as will ensure Vattenfall governance and take the project through Vattenfall engineering quality assurance review/governance.

Your profile as Engineering Manager

Our successful candidate has a relevant University degree in engineering, with a minimum of 5-10 years relevant work experience in the field of Engineering, Procurement and Construction, Ideally within the District Heating industry.

You should be a flexible and proactive individual, able to adapt and deliver to what the situation requires, and to bring creative solutions to the day to day problems.
