Ben Carter

As Account Director for the Scotland Business Development team, Ben’s goal is to ensure as many people as possible can benefit from low carbon heat via city-scale heat networks.

Ben works with partners to deliver fairly priced, low carbon heat across Midlothian and south-east Edinburgh. He has been involved in district heating since 2016 and renewables since 2010.
Ben works closely with housebuilders and developers in the vicinity of the MEL heat network, particularly at Shawfair. He coordinates with partners to secure agreements for heat supply from the MEL heat network, supporting the ambition to expand the existing network across Midlothian, extending northwards and across council boundaries to connect buildings within the City of Edinburgh.

Ben believes heat networks represent a new opportunity to coordinate and collaborate across the private, public and social sectors to improve our health, our wellbeing and our places. He believes heat networks can also make a dent in Scotland’s carbon footprint and help adapt to a climate changed world.
