Local authorities choose to partner with us because we bring an expert team, investment, vision and ambition. Talk to us on how we can help you develop, grow and optimise the running of your local heat networks.

What we do

We are specialists in developing large, city-scale low carbon heat networks. Working in partnership with local authorities, real estate developers and housing associations, we deliver reliable, low carbon heating to local communities across the UK.

Developing low carbon cities with our partners

Whether launching a new heat network, or scaling an existing one, local authorities can face a raft of challenges on their journey to decarbonise city living.

Tackling decarbonisation at a city-level requires investment, experience and the capability to deliver large energy projects that address the carbon challenge while driving economic growth through job creation and social value.

Listen to our team to hear how Vattenfall brings the expertise to bring your major energy infrastructure projects to fruition, and the strategic approach to partnership to generate capital, drive investment and create additional outcomes like local jobs.

Building low carbon cities with public sector partners

Our approach

Long-term & large scale

Vattenfall has a decades-long tradition of delivering successful large, city-scale heat networks across Europe, using innovation to harness waste heat sources, like data centres, in the process. We are one of Europe’s leading investors, owners & operators of heat networks.

Comfortable with complex

Delivering heat networks is delivering long-term energy infrastructure, which can be complex. Managing this complexity requires the right partner. At Vattenfall we have a track record in delivering complex infrastructure projects across the energy market, from wind, hydro and electricity networks.

Community as a cornerstone

At Vattenfall, we understand the community we help to build today, will be the one we are operating in tomorrow. Every project within our portfolio must advance our mission of achieving fossil freedom and support a just transition.

At Vattenfall, our purpose is to enable the fossil freedom that drives society forward. We work in partnership with cities and developers across the UK who share our vision for a fossil free future by designing, building and operating city-scale heat networks, to bring reliable, low carbon heating to communities. We recognise that the potential of our business goes far beyond providing fossil free heat and extends to creating additional social value for communities and local economies.

We actively invest in the resilience, prosperity, and vitality of the local communities we serve, working together toward a fossil free future that drives society forward. Our aim is that as we build, our heat networks bring additional benefits both to the customers they serve and to the communities where they are built.
