Bristol Heat Network
The Bristol heat network will be the lowest cost, lowest carbon solution for over 40% of Bristol’s buildings.
Our ambitious plans follow Bristol City Council's declaration of a climate emergency in 2018. Our Bristol heat network currently supplies the equivalent of almost 6,000 homes with heating and hot water. This is set to increase to the equivalent of 12,000 homes, connecting both existing buildings and new developments by 2030.
Our heat networks
We have nine heat network areas planned for Bristol, and are serving buildings, businesses and residents in Redcliffe, Old Market and Bedminster.
We are currently building a new network area in Temple, and progressing plans to build in areas such as Frome and Canons Marsh.
Our long-term goal is to interconnect each network area, improving energy self-sufficiency and future proofing heat supply for buildings across Bristol.
The network by the numbers
Our connected buildings
Bringing innovative heating systems to Victorian property
We undertook a discrete retrofit project in a 120 year old Victorian primary school, without interrupting heat supply. We used an existing plant room to house a heat network substation, which now benefits from a 40% reduction in carbon emissions and a reliable, fairly priced heat supply.
Low carbon heating for the South West's largest brownfield redevelopment
Connecting to the heat network has helped three of Bristol's buildings become some of the UK's most sustainable properties. Halo, Millwrights Place and Coopers Court within the Finzels Reach development have achieved a 35% energy consumption improvement and 47% less carbon emissions, of which 43% is attributed to the heat network connection for heating and cooling.
Deep retrofit of commercial property
We connected Temple Quay House to the Bristol heat network as part of its major office refurbishment. We delivered a discrete yet accessible substation by converting wasted car parking space in the underground car park.
