Social value in Bristol

We’re building on a foundation of community participation in Bristol. We're providing opportunities for local groups to become part of the network's fabric through a combined social value package worth £61.5 million.

We’re delivering value as we build by:

Offering funding initiatives including the Bristol City Leap Community Energy Fund.

Boosting the local supply chain by using micro and small medium sized businesses.

Supporting skills and development through work experience, work placements and apprenticeships.

Supporting community energy ownership

CEF Social value workshop

We have co-funded a Community Energy Fund to accelerate the decarbonisation of Bristol and support community-led projects.

We’re working with community energy groups to explore options for installing a heat generation plant near the heat network, or using existing electricity generation projects. We’ve created a guide to provide more information.

Building resilience above and below ground

Our heat network projects offer careers that span decades.

Our partnership as part of Bristol City Leap will create 1,000 new jobs, but we’re looking at the full career lifecycle to engage, inspire and provide a range of development opportunities.

From primary school volunteering, to leading university seminars on heating systems, supporting minority groups into work and offering apprenticeships on the Bristol heat network.

To deliver value in the city, we work hand in hand with our supply chain to maximise our impact.

Our supply chain carry social value commitments such as paying the Real Living Wage, signing up to the Equalities and Diversity Charter and supporting work opportunities such as apprenticeships and volunteering programmes.
