If the culture is right, the rest follows – notes from Berlin

This week our team were lucky enough to have some time with the inspiring Ben Ryan, professional sports coach, brilliant speaker, and a generally top bloke.

One hour of the most compelling storytelling of how he took Fijian 7‘s Rugby to the top of the world game and to Olympic Gold.  He left a strong impression with the team.

As we build our team here in the UK there were some incredible lessons to be learned from Ben about how to create high-performing teams through which team members can become the best version of themselves.  We are on a journey here in the UK with a goal to be the best at what we do and to win our equivalent of Olympic Gold.  It is easy to get lost in the strategies, the technologies, the heat pumps and waste heat recovery, the compliance and regulatory regime, the contract and commercial structures – but at the heart of our business is a new team of talented, passionate, and inspired people.

If the culture is right, the rest follows...what is the district energy equivalent of a goose-step and reverse pass?

In the last 12 months, this group have all chosen to be here rather than to be somewhere else.  As the guy leading that team that is inspiring, humbling, and terrifying.  We strive every day to be the best version of ourselves and to create the same space for creative brilliance that Ben created with the Fijian rugby masters.

Let out the natural flair!  If we get that right then we can deliver on the vision of fossil free district energy for our customers, and I hope we can then look back in two years time and see quotes like these above about our team and culture.
