Harnessing value for Scotland’s communities from heat networks

Vattenfall are developing our plans for large scale district heating in Edinburgh and Glasgow.  Our plans are closely aligned with Scottish Government and the two Local Authorities visions for district heating.  Vattenfall partnered with SCDI in a forum to discuss the opportunities arising from the installation of Heat Networks across Scotland.

SCDI’s report highlights the negative potential impacts of climate change on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for Glasgow, with output projected to worsen without major changes to climate control.  It also provides a summary of the need for collaboration across the industry and communication of the benefits of district heating and was a point that came across strongly in our subsequent Glasgow launch event on 31 March.

Paul Steen commented, “We were delighted to partner with SCDI on facilitating this forum and pleased that the report is now published showing the opportunities that come from working closely with partners, specifically Edinburgh and Glasgow, that bring Scotland the forefront of sustainable heat networks, and crucially helping us reach our net-zero targets.”
