Major milestone achieved: 100 residents now connected to Brent Cross Town heat network

  • 100 customers are now connected to the heat network at Brent Cross Town – Related Argent and Barnet Council’s new £8bn, 180-acre park town
  • The Brent Cross Town heat network is set to be one of the largest heat networks in the UK and has been developed in collaboration between Vattenfall and Related Argent
  • These are Vattenfall’s first customers in London which is a major step forward for the company in the region

The Brent Cross Town heat network has successfully connected its first 100 residents, marking a major step forward in the development of Vattenfall’s heating and cooling initiative.

This achievement is set to be the first of many, as the Brent Cross Town heat network aims to connect a total of 6,700 homes, including social housing, and three million square feet of commercial space. The announcement follows the completion of the first two residential buildings with residents now settling into their new homes.

The milestone highlights Vattenfall’s commitment to providing customers with reliable heating and hot water at a fair price while supporting the ambitions of Brent Cross Town, and London, to reach net zero carbon by 2030.

Developed in collaboration between Vattenfall and Related Argent, the Brent Cross Town heat network is set to be one of the largest heat networks in the UK. It serves the £8bn Brent Cross Town regeneration project which is being led by real estate developer Related Argent and Barnet Council.

The Brent Cross Town heat network’s fully electric main energy centre – which will begin producing heat and cooling in 2027 – will generate low carbon heating and cooling for homes and businesses using technologies such as heat pumps, electric boilers, chillers, and thermal stores, forming one of the largest such facilities in Europe. Until then, the system is run on gas.

Vattenfall is committed to partnering with local authorities, commercial organisations, and communities across London to enable the city’s transition from fossil-fuelled heating to low carbon alternatives.

Alina Gheorghiu-Currie, Vattenfall’s Director of Heat Networks – London, said:

"We are delighted to celebrate this significant milestone of connecting the first 100 customers to the Brent Cross Town heat network. This achievement marks a major step forward in our commitment to providing reliable, resilient heating solutions to the local community, and to London.

“This is a great demonstration of the power of collaboration, working hand in hand with our partners Related Argent and Barnet Council. We look forward to continuing our journey towards a sustainable future, connecting more homes and businesses to our innovative heat network.”

Jamie Quinn, Sustainability Director, Related Argent, added:

"We are very proud of the progress we have made with the Brent Cross Town heat network and the first 100 customers being connected is a testament to our shared vision for a sustainable and flourishing community. Brent Cross Town is now a living breathing development, and seeing residents enjoy their new homes is incredibly rewarding and reinforces our commitment to creating a high-quality living environment."
